The Cottage Grove Civic Association held their quarterly meeting to discuss neighborhood events, financial updates, and community improvements, including infrastructure projects and park enhancements. The group reviewed recent activities like National Night Out and discussed upcoming events including a Santa in the Park and holiday drives, while also addressing budget projections and membership status. Updates were provided on transportation initiatives, including new service options and fare system improvements, along with information about ongoing infrastructure projects and community engagement efforts.

Cottage Grove Civic Association Meeting
Welcome
National Night Out recap: 135 participants and raised $322.
Yard signs have been ordered and are available for purchase at $20 each to support neighborhood events.
A 2020 survey highlighted infrastructure and crime as key concerns for the neighborhood. Since the revival of the Civic Association, progress has been made in park improvements, tree planting, and speed bump installation, as well as increased representation at Super Neighborhood 22 meetings and engagement with the city.
Membership and Financial Update
Current balance is just under $4,000, with 13 potential renewals and 88 paid members out of 106 total members before year-end.
Cleanup of Venmo and backend bank processes, with plans to close the year strongly and maintain momentum into 2026.
Community Project Updates
TC Jester is undergoing rehabilitation, with panel replacements and lane closures expected to be completed by December 8.
Additionally, 14 trees at TC Jester were mowed down; CGCA reached out to District C to request replacements.
Cottage Grove East project has been delayed multiple times since 2019 and is now scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Larry explained that the project's delay is due to ongoing plan reviews by the City of Houston and budgeting issues.
TxDOT Hempstead highway project is nearly complete, with a commitment to replace damaged sidewalks.
Pumpkin Compost drop off Oct 25 - Nov 29 by City of Houston Solid Waste Management
Council Member Kamin, in partnership with Gene Wu for State Representative 137 and State Representative Armando Walle, brought together regional elected officials at every level for a briefing with our local non profits on the ground responding to the food insecurity crisis due to the government shutdown, SNAP and federal funding cuts.

Thursday, Nov 27 (Thanksgiving Day) - no collection services
Friday, Nov 28 - Thursday's garbage, recycling, heavy trash to be serviced
Saturday, Nov 29 - Friday's garbage, recycling, heavy trash to be serviced
Colin from Metro provided updates on free rides to the polls, a new downtown direct service at Hobby Airport, and a streamlined fare system with Apple Pay and Samsung Pay integration coming later in the fall.
Upcoming Events
Santa in the Park event - Dec 7th at 2pm, including photos with Santa, a dog costume contest (starting at 3pm) with two gift card prizes
Bring canned goods and unused unwrapped toys for Houston Food Bank and Operation Stocking Stuffer.
